This principle holds true even for established brands, and Adam Ondra, as one of the world’s top competitive climbers, certainly qualifies as such. That’s why we’re thrilled about the successful photo retouch that now graces Adam Ondra’s official Mercedes-Benz V-Class vehicle.
The one-of-a-kind photo was captured by Spanish photographer Bernardo Gimenez. Adam Ondra lends his incredibly creative approach to brand promotion, and he’s not the only one. Photographer Petr Chodura and top cameraman Jan Vogl, both indispensable members of the Freelance Core team focused on production, are also unafraid of heights.
Transforming the photograph into a vector graphic—a retouch—so it could be applied as a vehicle decal required specialist expertise. Enter Petr Dvořák, our graphics section representative. Despite initial reservations, he skillfully handled the task, producing a result that will grace Europe’s roads for quite some time.
“I didn’t want to merely apply filters or manually sketch over the original image. Usually, techniques like desaturation or various effects are deployed. Converting it to a drawing is standard, but this case called for nuanced additions and deletions. Initially, I was hesitant, but I’m pleased with how it turned out. The photo was challenging due to its complex elements of stone and shadow, making cropping difficult. In processes like this, where you start with a photograph, the outcome is always uncertain. But here, it worked out beautifully.”
