While hitchhiking around the world in 2015, I came across a new species on the road: the digital nomad. “Brilliant,” I thought. The endless opportunity to be “on the road” while working online sounded like the ultimate lifestyle. I transitioned from writing reports for Vice to copywriting, online marketing, and web development—basically anything that could support me while travelling, right?
I was lucky enough to be involved in the creation of the European hitchhiking race: Low Cost Race (now X-Challenge), handling the marketing and organising the programme for a camp for entrepreneurs, investors, and digital nomads: Cashflow Summer. I also rebranded and developed a new business model for a service inspecting and importing used cars: Dovez to dál, which worked to eliminate the dodgy “90s” car dealership practices. Along the way, I worked with dozens of other clients, which showed me that the biggest rush comes from the intersection of marketing and launching new projects.
After years of living the nomadic life and feeling the need to find a deeper sense of purpose in my work, beyond just making money, I settled in Prague and co-founded Wakawai. In this project, we digitalise the ways in which companies and non-profits can connect and collaborate to create a greater positive impact. This opened up new worlds for me, from UX/UI, information system architecture, and managing teams of developers, to processing mountains of data and customer feedback and turning it into practical digital innovations. I also delved into the intricate legal landscape of non-profits.
What excites me most is tackling new and complex “puzzles” and solving them by using seemingly unrelated tools and approaches. Boom. Crack. And the cherry on top is when something new and valuable comes out of the process. That’s why, at Freelance Core, you’ll find much better copywriters or web developers than me. My work steps in when dealing with complex clients, where it’s all about finding new pathways and strategies in online business and marketing.
